Ashley NewAir Menteng: Will this be my new favourite Jakarta Hotel?

Written by:

I love boutique hotels, and that’s the reason why there are several properties in Jakarta that I love to stay in when visiting for work. The last time I was here, I stayed at Morrisey – where I spent most of my hotel time when in Jakarta during my previous job. But the hotel has deteriorated its standards and looked worn out and old, so I decided that this time, I will choose another one.

And there is Ashley NewAir Menteng, a stone-throw away from one of my favorite restaurants. It just opened last year, and the property is packaged as something focused on health and well-being, with one additional fixture in the room – an air purifier! (Surprise, surprise!). So, I booked, and was not disappointed.

The Interior Design

The hotel has a coherent design – repurposed stuff from yesteryears – luggages, transistor radios, wood panels from old houses, typewriters , among others. So it really looks pretty and artsy, even the hallways.

The Room

The room is spacious for its price, and the bed is very comfortable. The housekeeping crew took a lot of effort to welcome you with an art piece on your bed, local desserts to welcome you, and a spick and span level of cleanliness that’s not characteristic of hotels in this part of the globe. There is a good-sized closet, a large fridge to store your favourite snacks, a coffee and tea maker, a work station, and a nice shower and toilet. Really worth the buck.

The People

The crew are very professional – ready to assist you with your needs. The atmosphere is very welcoming, and it helps a lot that people are sensitive but not intrusive in handling your requests.

Will I come back again? Yes. Maybe for a longer experience. I have not had the chance to use their facilities – not that I like an indoor pool – but probably there are things that can be enjoyed longer, like the bar downstairs, or a good massage perhaps.
