One Dinner, One Breakfast in Makati

Written by:

I happened to go home to the Philippines towards the tail end of March and dropped by Makati en route to my international flight. I stayed with my son in one of my favourite business hotels in the city and it never disappoints. I wrote about it here.

So, I am writing here one dinner highlight and one breakfast highlight. Both were very good.

Dinner: Pablo

The restaurant just across Picasso’s front desk is Pablo, which also serves breakfast for the hotel guests. I did not book a bed-and-breakfast rate because I wanted to go somewhere the following day. It’s Spanish Mediterranean, and the menu is extensive.

We had Mixed Ibérico Cold Cuts and Cheese for starters. Yummy. Selection was perfect. My son had a loaded Mexican pizzetas for mains while I went for Pablo Iberico Ribs in Charcoal Oven. We both love the dishes. 9/10. The service was quite good. It was initially judgmental – we really did not look like we had money to pay.

Breakfast: Panco Cafe

I had to meet my good friend Wiz the following day. I chose Panco Cafe, some 20 minutes walk from the hotel. I chose the place because it’s famed for it’s coffee and for its delicious breakfast plates. We were not disappointed.

I got a classic lechon kawali with rice and apple slaw. My friend had the Breakfast Brisket. We paired it with Iced Tiramisu Latte and Dirty Mocha. As the conversation went longer, we ordered a final treat – the Ube Turon Ala Mode.

It was a good place. Food was delicious. But it was very busy. I am not sure if they take reservations, but you should probably get one if you plan to go there for brunch, especially on weekends.
