Gypsy by Chef Waya was recommended to me by a friend who knows Baguio a lot. On our first night in the city, my wife and kids chose the restaurant as the beginning point of our journey into the city’s culinary offerings.
The restaurant is bar, a restaurant, a meeting place, and an art gallery rolled into one. The ambience is formal but homey, and the repurposed residential building is a perfect blend of artistic expression and cultural homage. As it was Christmas, the season’s symbols are everywhere – and it was such a treat because a local artist’s exhibition was also ongoing while we were there.

The food was really good and worth its popularity. We ordered what we fancied – from hummus for starters, salad, soup, and sandwiches. We all loved what we ordered and my son, who has very discriminating tastebuds, loved their beef rendang.

While there were mixed reviews when you consult online, our experience was purely positive. The food was delicious, service was good, and the place feels like home. Plus the dessert was really good. We shared a bibingka burnt basque cheesecake and ice cream – and they were all delicious.

Recommended? Definitely.
Worth a second visit? Of course.
