Two Bars with Good Food in Talat Noi

I had my usual walks across China town in a span of five days and had the chance to see two bars with really good food along Talat Noi, in Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong area. It is worth a visit – especially for those who want to cap a night with good drinks, good food, and a conversation.

1. Very Nice Bar

This one is a very small, dimly lit, kind-of-speakeasy bar and resto with its vibe. The interior design does not scream – that you really can not notice it if you are walking on the street when darkness sets in. But drinks are good as well as the food. The tables are quite small – skillfully designed for intimate conversations. The music is eclectic and soothing, and the crew are not intrusive. Service is good so I can imagine coming here often. The menu is Japanese inspired, and so are the drinks.

Location here – Very Nice Bar.

2. Maaterr : มาเต้อะ

Just a few steps away from Very Nice Bar is Maaterr – a taste of Lanna house with really good drinks. They sell her the plum wine of Chef Black that I rave about here in this post about a Chiang Mai restaurant. They boast of “re-imagined” lanna cuisine, and honestly, the dishes do not disappoint. I think the place used to be Motherbkk, as this was what googlemaps indicate as its location.

Food is good, drinks as well. A little bit pricey on the scale, but nevertheless impressive to the discerning palate. Pictures below:

The open kitchen is a good concept – you can see the crew busy with your food. The grilled pork is a stunner, in both how the flavour is concocted and how it is presented on the plate.

Location here – Maaterr.

Both are a stone throw away from Hua Lamphong MRT, so it’s very convenient to tourists and residents alike.
