Two Cafes in Bangkok’s Chinatown

Written by:

We were walking again on a coffee hunt. This time, we wanted to walk around the massive Bangkok Chinatown. From the Wat Mangkon station, the impressive street with huge signboards and neon lights on the street is on your right, if you are facing east. But we walked the other way, across the street, moving northwest.

JAO.UN Cafe

There is small alley called Soi Charoenchai 2. We walked through the alley and found this hidden Gem. JAO.UN Cafe – our first stop.

Apparently, it’s a coffee shop by day and a bar by night, with night time strictly for adults only (probably because there is a performing band and music can be harmful to ears of younger people especially with the size of the place).

The menu is quite eclectic but very Chinese (It’s Chinatown, remember). For this visit, I got a grilled sweet pork bun and a plate of siomai, which are both distinctively delicious.

It was enough for brunch. Now is the time for coffee. For some reason, I did not order one at the cafe. I just got myself some iced green tea. Now is the time for coffee.

We walked to Sanam Chai to buy some flowers for the house as well. And we chanced upon this next stop.

Floral Cafe at Napasorn

The cofffee shop is at the first floor of the building. The ground floor is a proper flower shop, quite expensive but delivers the goods well. You pass through a set of narrow stairs and then you get to see all these flowers decorating the walls and the roof (It is a floral cafe, remember?).

The place is nicely decorated, and I am a big fan of repurposed things and places so this one is quite a stunner for me. But if you are allergic to dust and flowers, you might want to skip this as I can imagine the dried flowers collect a lot of dust.

We got a honey lemon soda, cappucino, and matcha latte. My daughter swears that the red velvet cake is good, so it must be.

Will I come back to both? Maybe? JAO.UN is interesting on how the bar looks and sounds like at night. So next time, it will be a night time visit.
