525 Eat and Drink – Vientiane

This bar and restaurant is a beauty at night.

The entrance is quite a statement, and the way the service crew meet you at the door, without showing you what exactly is inside, makes you want to explore the space and discover what’s in store.

Beyond that door above is a small alley that leads to at least three passageways. The lady that welcomed me at the foyer led me to the door on the right, and what you see is a cosy bar with high tables and chairs on the side.

The interior is stunning at this small bar area and the music is set just to the right volume that you can either get lost in your thoughts if you come here alone, or enjoy an intimate conversation with a companion. Andrew, the property’s founder, designed the place exactly how I perceived it above – as a sanctuary for family and friends (or a lonely wanderer) who wants to laugh, eat, drink, and waste time together.

You have an option to stay at the bar and have a drink, or go to the adjoining indoor formal seating area, or the outdoor tables on the yard. I opted to stay in the bar though the other options are equally inviting.

I was not in the mood for alcohol that night (I know, such a shame), so I settled for a mocktail. The bartender created a wonderful concoction of rosella, lychee, lime, egg white, and sugar, appropriately called Crimson Royale. For starters, I got fresh Asparagus pangrilled with salt, black pepper and olive oil. As if it was not enough, I also ordered Mini Quesadillas – small tortillas stuffed with a good mix of chorizo and cheese. You have the option to top it with lightly spiced salsa or cream cheese.

The highlight for the night for me was the Gorgonzola Gnocchi. The blue cheese was very tasty but not overpowering, and each piece of gnocchi is bathed with a generous amount of cream cheese. It was a joy.

The service was very attentive and everyone speak good English. You feel well-taken care of without feeling that your private space is violated. They just let you do want you want to do, and attend to you when you need them to do so.

Do I recommend?

Definitely.

Will I come back again?

Yes, but probably for brunch. Their extensive menu makes you feel that each visit will be a culinary adventure.

I did not have the space for dessert or alcohol. So both would be a good reason to come back to.
