Salana Boutique Hotel – Vientiane

Salana Boutique Hotel will always be my favourite in Vientiane. While several of my friends opt for the bigger hotels in this Laotian city, small, boutique hotels like Salana enchants me every time.

Location is not far from the night market and from several of the restaurants and cafes that I often visit when I come to the city. It’s just along Chou Anou Road, right in front of the age-old Wat Ong Teu, a 16th century Buddhist temple.

Firsts, let’s talk about the rooms. I always like wooden rooms, wooden floors, wooden furniture, and Salana just provides that. Wood is warm, when compared to the cold concrete. I also hate carpets due to my allergic rhinitis, so Salana is just perfect.

Second, let’s talk about Salana’s legendary buffet breakfast, that comes with ala carte options. I usually go for my Vietnamese egg drop in the morning along with fruits, and a few sausages here and there.

Third, there’s that lounge and bar on the fourth floor where I normally work when not in meetings or interviews outside. The lounge is really a cozy place to enjoy a light snack or a coconut juice.

True, it is a small hotel, but it does not seem to feel constricted or lacking space. Plus the people are very good and kind-hearted, so it is always a joy to come back.

Recommended? Definitely.
