Going home is also about going home to the types of food that you grew up liking. This time around, I had to revisit old favorites – from the turo-turo (point by your finger) restaurants, to the fancy cafes that sell not only the food but also the beauty of the place. In this post I will talk about the few things that I came home to, to satisfy the yearning palate.
1. Six Sisters: Distinctively Bisaya
This is my go-to-place for comfort food. And there are three things here that I crave and normally just the only things I order to pair with a cup of rice – tinolang bisayang manok, ginisang sikwa, and adobong manok.

2. Becca: Flavour with a View
To be honest, I come here for the view. While the food and drinks are not that exceptional, the view makes for whatever is lacking. My daughter loves the Chicken and Wedges, while I go for Burger Steak and Mash, paired with our favorite Cucu-lemon Slush.

3. Kissa Japanese Cafe: Comfort Ramen
Kissa in Panglao will always be my source of comfort food. Their ramen is exceptional especially on rainy days. The broth rivals several of the popular city ramen chains like Ippudo or Sho Yu. We will always come back to this place every time we go home.
My daughter went for the Katsu Curry while I got Tonkutso Ramen. My wife raves about their Strawberry Smoothie.

4. Mosia Cafe: Desserts from Memory
When Mosia was still owned and operated by Russian women entrepreneurs, I could swear they had the best cakes in Tagbilaran City. But they were gone and bakers came and went, and so the quality and the taste is no longer the same. But I still come to the place, more for what it was than what it has become.
We got a cake and a few drinks that I no longer bother to remember.

5. Baybay sa Taloto: Goodness in every Bite.
Baybay sa Taloto will always be a memorable place for me. I am a fan of their pastries and we ordered our company’s Christmas treats one time from them that our friends enjoyed. Tita Glo is a good friend and she also agreed to host one of my 50th birthday parties. So I visited BST and ordered the usual favorite: the big breakfast platter, and putomaya with its classic pair – the sikwate!

6. Nanay Susan’s Masterpieces
Our kids’ nanny, Nanay Susan, who has been with us for more than 20 years now, is an excellent cook. Our kitchen (and fridge) is full of her wonderful creations, cooked with love and affection. This time, I requested Binuwadang Utang Nangka, Pansit Miki, and Crispy Chicharon!

What a treat, don’t you think?
