Yum at Mam!

As soon as we arrived in Hoi An, I wanted my wife and kids to try Banh Mi, that classic Vietnamese baguette – but this time around with a twist. So we walked to Mam House, advertised as a restaurant, boutique and workshop, located among the first few streets within the old town.

We were greeted by the French chef-entrepreneur who created his version of the Vietnamese classic, and also sells alongside it an elegant version of the region’s fish sauce. They were not disappointed – my son even ordered one more.

The banh mi was delicious, especially after it was sprayed by that “special” fish sauce that you can also buy at the restaurant. The drinks were refreshing, especially after that exposure to sun and humidity. And the starter, the eggplant mama ganoush was to die for.

The place is tastefully decorated – a very small nook where food preparation takes place, and the dining area is all al alfresco on an area fronting the street.

We treated ourselves to the sweet banh mi in the end. It was very good, tasty, and just the right of sweetness we needed.

The crew is very attentive and serves the dishes with care and love – well, that’s the foundation of good food anyway.

Thanks a lot Mam House. We will surely be back.
