I saw a post in Instagram about tok. bar and restaurant and I was attracted to its location as the place overlooks a massive ricefield. I always miss the smell of rice paddies that’s about to be harvested as I grow up in the southern part of the Philippines where rice farming is one of the primary source of livelihood.
So we went to tok. with my family. I was not able to ask why there is a period right after tok (which actually means take-over kitchen) but let’s just leave it at that. Their website tells about their humble beginnings during the pandemic, so you can check their story on the link provided.
The place is some 10-12 minutes from Hoi An’s old town where we were staying so we just took a Grab to take us there. And indeed, just as I expected, I experienced that serenity and peace and quiet, reminiscent of Bali ricefield restos that I love, including Nook in Ubud.

The attendant thought that we were staying for the day and said they were full, but I told her we are just there for lunch and will not take long. Apparently the place is a favourite hang-out spot for several people who stays there for the whole day to read a book or just talk with friends. For example, if you want the day-bed pictured above, you need to make a reservation ahead.
The food is quite good and is made of quality ingredients. We had a salad, a main course for each and a couple of desserts and they were all up to standard.

The price is quite okay, and definitely cheaper in similar places in Bali. The dining atmosphere and vibe is fit for intimate conversations and service is attentive but not intrusive.
Will I recommend? Yes. I will even come back the next time we will be in Hoi An. It is a nice experience and probably I will reserve a space for a sundowner just to have a good conversation or read a book in the middle of a ricefield.
