Mukhrantubani Boutique Hotel: Tbilisi’s Hidden Gem

Written by:

We were spending Christmas and New Year holidays in Tbilisi, and we wanted an affordable place for at least two weeks. For a family of four – with two teenager kids – staying in one room is no longer an option.

We wanted a place that’s central enough, so we can go to various attractions by foot, as well as enjoy the conveniences of public transport. I have been to Tbilisi several times but the business hotels I had been staying on is not fit for the trip. For one, they are slightly overpriced, and second, they don’t exude that holiday vibe. Too formal and business.

I was scouring through Booking.com, I chanced upon Mukhrantubani Boutique Hotel. The name sounds very local, and the location, a few steps away from the famous clock tower. The price was within our budget, and the building looks very interesting, plus it got good reviews. I am happy we finally decided to book it. It was all worth the penny.

First, the lobby is spacious and gorgeous. It has that eclectic mix of modern and ancient things. It has a clear view of the sky and room inner verandahs overlook what seems to be an inner courtyard.

Second, the rooms are nice, not carpeted, and the beds are comfortable. My son and I shared a twin room while my wife and daughter had a king size bed. Both rooms have balconies that faces one of the city’s major streets – Nikolos Baratashvili Street. But it never felt noisy even at early rush hour mornings.

Third, food is great. This is the first time my family tried kachapuri and mtvasdi and they both loved it. My wife tried the traditional Georgian salad of tomato, cucumber, and walnut sauce and was raving about it. Such a good introduction to Georgian cuisine!

Fourth, the location is really central. As mentioned, we just walk to the major attractions and it saves us a lot of time, money, and makes us temper the weight gain that comes with all the eating of good food.

Finally, the team at the hotel are very helpful and charming (even with that thick Georgian accent). It is such a pity we had to move to another hotel for our next week.

Thank you MBH team for all the good experience. We will surely come back.
