The Long Drive to Cafe Natura

Written by:

For several months I was planning to visit this place and have saved it in my list of things to do in Bangkok while I still live in beautiful Thailand. But because the cafe is just too far away from where I live, or the city centre for that matter, the plan just did not materialise.

One Sunday morning, I finally convinced myself that visiting the place is a good investment of time especially when spent with the family. Never mind if it is quite a drive.

We took a Grab car to bring us there, and the car even missed the street where we should make a left. The driver asked whether there is not good enough food in the city that we need to drive this far away. In my mind, I replied, we are not here for the food (but yes, that’s part of that). We are here more for the essence of the place. Like the one you can see in the pictures below:

The greenery is all over. There are at least three places where you can spend your while here. There is that two storey of the restaurant at the entrance, then there is that outdoor restaurant when you turn left from the main building., and finally there is that dessert cafe beside the river canal. We opted to go to the second and the third.

Food in the middle of greenery was an experience in itself. There are mosquitoes, as expected, but a mosquito-repellent lotion comes handy at every table. A sampling of the food below:

It’s your usual Thai cuisine. My wife liked the Tom Yum while my daughter loved the crispy pork. The sauteed crabmeat in onion and garlic was my highlight.

As if we we were not full enough, we went to the dessert cafe by the river canal and regretted not bringing a book with us. It was the perfect side to read and savour coffee/tea with dessert. A sampling below, plus the ambience:

Because it is very far, what I suggest is you spend at least some good four hours here. Have lunch, then spend the rest of the time idly at the cafe by the river. It will be all worth it.

Will we come back? Surely. We will bring a book with us when that time comes, or some sketchpad to do some drawings.
