I have not been home in Bohol for quite a bit, that a lot of my choices when I go out to dine are those that evoke strong sense of memories of home. For the last 20 years or so, Bohol is home to me. My wife is from Tagbilaran and my kids were born in the city. My mother is from Panglao, and though we all grew up in Mindanao, my sisters and I were born in Panglao because my mother always comes home when she’s pregnant to give birth in the comforts of home.
One afternoon, I was craving for pork humba and pancit canton, so with a group of friends, we went to Crescencia Food and Coffee, right in the heart of the historic town of Baclayon.

Dining at Crescencia Food and Coffee in Baclayon was a truly enchanting experience that transported me back in time. Housed in an ancestral home dating back to 1905, the restaurant exudes a charming and nostalgic atmosphere that perfectly complements its Filipino flair.
As I stepped inside, the familiar homey ambience greeted me. The wooden furniture and walls, sitting atop concrete slabs that have gleamed through years of diligent care, create a warm and inviting space. The soft, warm lighting enhances the cozy feel, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed meal. To add to the charm, the restaurant features a quaint library and a souvenir store, allowing guests to soak in the local culture while enjoying their dining experience.

I ordered my favorites: pork humba, pancit canton, and inun-onang tulingan. Each dish was bursting with flavor. The pork humba was tender and savory, with just the right amount of sweetness, while the pancit canton was expertly cooked, with a perfect balance of vegetables and noodles al dente. The inun-onang tulingan, a traditional dish of mackerel soaked in vinegar and abundantly covered with garlic, was fresh and flavorful, reminding me of the rich culinary heritage of the Philippines. I ordered a cup of iced Spanish latte to accompany the meal, and I couldn’t resist trying the pinaypay na saging for dessert. This delightful banana dessert was the perfect sweet ending.

What truly made my visit special was the homey feel of the restaurant. It reminded me so much of our old ancestral house in Panglao, filled with memories of family gatherings and shared meals. Crescencia Food and Coffee not only serves delicious food but also provides a sense of connection to the past, making it a unique dining destination.
If you find yourself in Baclayon, I highly recommend visiting Crescencia. Too bad I did not see there my good friend, the indefatigable Sir Nes and his wife Jojie, or Maestro Odoni, musician par excellence. Maybe next time.
