I was on a work trip in Chiangmai, in Thailand’s upper north, and the workshop was in one of those old hotels that can be considered an institution in the city in terms of hospitality services. But I wanted one that’s a bit modern, light, and comfortable for late night working as I planned to finish a few reports while there.
A quick Google search led me to a hotel that’s just a stone throw away and I was impressed by the website and the wonderful reviews,so I booked right away without hesitation. When I arrived at the hotel, it was a nice surprise that it shared the same gate as the workshop hotel. Syn Boutique Hotel is apparently the new and modern version of the workshop hotel..
The hotel is definitely modern in structure and even in service. I was greeted by this welcome drink that’s fruity and floral at the same time. I did not manage to ask it’s name. I just drank it through.

As soon as I reached the room, I was again impressed by the layout and the quality of the bed and amenities. Minibar is free and is replenished daily. See pictures below.

The hotel has a gallery that features local artists, a small but cosy gym, and well planned pool with bar at the ground floor.

Breakfast is delicious with a choice of local and international ALA carte dishes at some days, and buffet in others. For my first morning, I ordered the local Chiang Mai fare.

The only thing that did not impress me was the use of plastic plants in the room and the relatively remote location. While close to Nimman area by car, there were no interesting sights that’s walkable.
Will I book again? Probably. But it’s worth a try if you want a modern place in a serene environment and away from the noise of city bars and late night restos.
